Our Mission
The historic aircraft of the Commemorative Air Force once flew the skies in military battles around the world. Our mission is to preserve these aircraft in flying condition today so that we may see them in action and experience military aviation as it developed over the past century.
Our History
The Heart of America Wing of the Commemorative Air Force was formed on July 5, 1982. Our hangar at New Century AirCenter (originally the Olathe Naval Air Station) was constructed in 1999. Construction is currently under way to expand the meeting room and education center.
Our People
The Heart of America Wing has as members a group of men and women of diverse ages and backgrounds, but all sharing a dedication to preserving our military aviation history. We are honored to have as members a number of veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The dedication and hard work of our members allows us to maintain our planes in excellent flying condition and to build our museum, develop educational programs, and maintain an active presence in the community.
Our Invitation to You
We invite you to visit our hangar and see our planes and museum. We meet at 10:00 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month (except December) at our hangar at New Century AirCenter.
We welcome as members all men and women, age 18 and older. You do not need to be a pilot or a veteran…just have an interest in learning about historic military aviation and participating in events and activities that preserve the planes, artifacts, and memories of that time in history.
